There is certainly no shortage of attention, and money, being invested into the growing world of mobile applications. So, who is the market leader and why is that of interest? This is a good question. For those with only a minimal degree of knowledge about the mobile apps market, it should come as little surprise that the market leadership position is currently held by the Apple Corporation.

With nearly 300,000 different applications, the Apple App store more than doubles its nearest competitor, the Android Market. So, what does this mean to you, the average smart phone consumer?

That depends on if you are the type of person that chooses a phone based on its core functionality and a handful of apps that simplify your daily activities, or if you prefer a phone with not only the latest in consumer appeal but also with the best of today’s, and tomorrows, applications.

Types of Digital Media Devices

Most digital media forms are typically electronic media that work on digital codes. The binary numeral system is the primary basis for computing. Within this spectrum the term digital refers to the state “1” and “0” in the representation of arbitrary data. Typically, computers are machines in which there are binary digital data interpretations in the form of information and it represents the chief class of digital data processing machines. Digital media such as digital video, digital audio, and additional digital content can be distributed, referred to, and created through digital information processing machines. Some forms of digital media include:

  • Compact discs which are also referred to as optical discs and are used for the storage of digital data. These was originally created for playback and sound recordings and later grew to incorporate things such as rewritable media CD-RW, data storage CD-ROM, Photo CD, Super Video Compact Discs, and Audio CDs.
  • E-books are referred to as electronic books, digital books, ebooks, and e-books and are an image-based and text publication in digital form which is readable, published by, and produced on a computer or additional digital devices. There are some e-books that do not have a printed equivalent. These books are typically read on a hardware device that is known as an e-book device or e-Reader.
  • Digital video is characterized as a kind of video recording system that operates by the use of digital as opposed to analog video signals. The terms camcorder, video camera, and camera are all connected with the term digital video.
  • E-commerce is electronic commerce which consists of selling and purchasing services or products over an electronic system like the Internet and additional computer networks. Modern e-commerce usually utilizes the World Wide Web, although other venues can be utilized such as e-mail.

Integrating File and Media Storage

Dynamism is the very nature of our modern technology. In making its progress, it is moving ever closer towards unity. You can see this by the way different websites, which host different types of digital media, announce, compliment and seamlessly integrate into one another. While some look at technological progress in a negative light, what could be better than doing away with all of the extra things?

There are, of course, different websites with different purposes. Some are dedicated to video, some to photos and some exclusive to back-end maintenance. Even others (the ones with which we are all familiar) have their main focus as being one where we can maintain communication with one another.

While there is some advantage to utilizing these different Internet services for hosting different media, it wouldn’t hurt the proprietor, for organizational or administrative purposes, to keep everything in one place. This is why some people buy space on file servers and do their own website programming. This way, you can host and stream all of your own information and media.

The problem with this is that not everyone has the time or the knowledge to do their own coding, which is the great advantage of these other web services. And fortunately, as the technology continues to develop, these services will become increasingly integrated, which will serve as both an advantage and a disadvantage to independent developers.

The integration will be an advantage because it will allow clients of developers to more easily unify media on their own ends. However, it will be a disadvantage insofar as it will cut down on development time. Then again, there is nothing wrong with shorter programming and development time. It saves the clients money and affords developers more time to accommodate a greater amount of clients. The middle-man in the file-sharing process will disappear.

Where Is Video Technology Headed?

Where would the world be without computers? People are using their computers for more things every day, and that use is being driven by improvements in video technology. It wasn’t long ago that kids needed the newest XBOX to have access to their favorite games and the online community that specifically used them. With faster processing speeds on personal computers, many gamers are using their computers to do battle.

Two of the biggest advancements in video technology over the past few years have been an increase in processing speeds and the improvements of video cards. With improvements in processing speeds and video processing, the newer computers have taken a gigantic leap forward. This increase in processing speeds has led to improvements in surveillance technology and the capture and control of movable objects like remote control cars and airplanes.

Think about video technology. Even for families that are disconnected by enormous distance, the technology of Skype brings them together via video conferencing. The improvements in processor speeds, even from five years ago, make programs like Skype possible because there is no delay in this video teleconferencing.

So where is it all headed? That question is almost unimaginable to answer based on the progress of just the last few years. One thing is for certain, processing speeds will continue to improve and technological devices will get smaller with more capabilities.

The online gaming community, while prevalent, is really only just getting started. With improvements in technology, there are going to be more games, better games and higher video quality with which to play these games.

Perhaps even the cell phone will be replaced within the next 20 years with some device that hasn’t even been imagined yet. Sporting events already being watched on phones and mobile devices will be sure to have some improvements as the technology improves.
